Environment and
sustainable development

Your decision to separate glass packaging and dispose of it in the green bin can seem an insignificant gesture, but when adding them to those deposited by a vast amount of other people, it makes a difference, and we will see positive environmental effects very soon. Check it out!

For the planet
THE PLAN B IS YOU!

You may have thought that recycling can't change things... Whether you're slightly sceptical or a recycling activist, you've come to the right place. Discover here how much recycling glass packaging can do for our planet.

It slows down climate change
The use of cullet, i.e. recycled glass, to manufacture new glass packaging is much more sustainable than using raw materials such as sand, lye or limestone.
Why?
  • Because it reduces CO2 emissions: using cullet to manufacture new glass packagings reduces CO2 emissions by 53% when compared to using raw materials. This is because recycled glass melts at a lower temperature than sand, lye and limestone in the furnace. In addition, we avoid the emissions associated with extracting the raw materials from nature and their transportation.

  • Because it contributes to energy saving: manufacturing glass packagings from cullet is key to reducing energy expenditure. Recycled glass fully maintains its properties and saves 38% of energy throughout the process. This is due to the fact that no raw materials are extracted, the impact of transportation is lower and a lower temperature is required in the glass furnace.
Check this out! Thanks to recycling glass packaging, last year we:
Avoided emitting
587,000 tons
of CO2 into the atmosphere, which is equivalent to flying around the world 150 times
Avoided emitting CO2 equivalent to flying around the world 140 times
Saved
723,000 MWh
of energy, which is equivalent to two months of electricity consumption by all Spanish hospitals

Recycling glass protects the resources and fosters the circular economy
When using recycled glass, we avoid eroding the soil and extracting sand from nature. And, this is a key factor in reducing the over-exploitation of resources.

Furthermore, as glass is fully recyclable, it is an ideal substitute as a secondary raw material and can be reintroduced into the production process without any issues. Look at what we've achieved!

RECYCLING GLASS PACKAGING AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

It is highly connected to the UN's 2030 Urban Agenda, which establishes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aimed at achieving fair and sustainable development.

As we have seen, recycling glass packaging is crucial to fighting against climate change and taking care of the environment. In addition, it arises from citizen action: the true driving force of this change!
